  1. Welcome & Announcements
  2. Public Comment
      1. Sayge Felker: encouraged CSAC to enhance student engagement by creating a sustainability-related core requirement. Highlighted coursework from political science classes and emphasized value of broader academic exposures to sustainability.
  3. Office of Sustainability: Review of Past and Current Strategies
    1. Share examples of how sustainability programming has been communicated to students in the past
      1. Key examples of can be organized into three major themes: daily habits, campus features, and academics
    2. Describe strategies such as in class presentations & Summit and website developments
      1. Existing strategies include events, class and committee presentations, instructional videos, recorded webinars, newsletters, and online material from the Office of Sustainability, Campus Engineering, MSU News, and other groups.
      2. OS Highlighted success at events like Move-In and the Welcome Back Picnic, where combining temporary signage with in-person volunteers improved rates of diversion.

 

  1. CSAC Working Session: Future Communication Priorities
    1. Solicit feedback and identify tools CSAC would like to use for future engagement
      1. Members affirmed value of using QR-codes for self-guided sustainability tours, integrating sustainability materials into New Faculty Orientation, and expanding partnerships with groups like Community Design Center and Engineers Without Borders.
    2. Evaluate current strategies and expand on key themes
      1. OS emphasized the importance of assessing the effectiveness of communication tools and exploring ways to measure their longer-term impacts on students after graduation.
    3. Identify and prioritize communication options for implementation beginning Spring ‘26
      1. The Office of Sustainability will incorporate feedback and develop a sustainability communications strategy for Spring 2026. This strategy will be presented to CSAC at the December meeting.
    4. Working Group Updates
      1. The Scope 1 and 2 Communications Group is combining engineering and systems information with place-based language and anticipates sharing developments during December.
      2. Zero Waste reported a 7% increase in diversion in October ’25, compared to October ’24. OS is preparing concise biannual waste updates and a comprehensive annual report to help students and partners engage with campus waste data. Partners are invited to provide feedback on these reports.
