Tutoring is currently free to MSU students.  Most of the tutoring through SmartyCats is appointment based.  Drop-in sessions are limited and offered at the same time each week.  Sessions are held on the 2nd floor of Renne Library at the SmartyCats Center, unless another public place is mutually agreed upon. 

To find and schedule tutoring, login to navMSU with your MSU net id and password.  

  1. Choose the Appointments tab
  1. Press:  Schedule Appointment (upper righthand corner)
  1. Select from two drop-down menus: 

           (1) Tutoring 

           (2) Course 

  1. To view available times, select date from calendar
  1. To book an individual appointment, select a time that works, include information about what you’d like help with, review, then Book
  1. Watch for any messages from your tutor 
  1. Before you head to the library, make sure to have your student d. for check-in and check-out at kiosk.

 

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours ahead of your appointment.  

To cancel, login to navMSU, go to Appointments tab, select the specific tutoring session date/time, press cancel, and confirm.  

Policy:  Three (3) late cancellations or no-shows will result in an automatic scheduling block in navMSU for Thirty (30) days.    

If you are unable to cancel your appointment in navMSU, please contact your tutor directly.  

 

Quick Tips. 

  1. Provide any information helpful to your tutor when making an appointment.  For example, include concepts or chapters you need help with.  Your tutor may ask for material ahead of time to prepare. 
  2. Be on the lookout for messages from your tutor and appointment reminders.  Tutors will use navMSU to send messages directly to your preferred email. Make sure the email listed in your navMSU profile is correct.
  3. If you need to cancel, login to navMSU at least 24 hours prior to the appointment.  

 

SmartyCats Tutoring employs undergraduates who recently completed and excelled in the MSU courses they offer support in.   

Appointment-based Individual Tutoring.  

Students must book individual appointments in advance. Students may invite friends from class to join if they wish.  Appointments guarantee uninterrupted help from the tutor as needed for 50 minutes.     

Drop-in Sessions.  

For same-day help, drop-in sessions may be available depending on the course.  Weekly schedules can be found by searching navMSU or checking the whiteboard at the SmartyCats Center, 2nd floor of library.
