Leadership Team
KaylaBedey is a graduate student in Environmental Engineering researching engineered living materials and the functionalization of pervious concrete infrastructure, like sidewalks. Her work investigates growing biofilms on concrete with the intention of trapping microplastics from storm and surface water runoff. Outside of research, she specializes in a niche, 19th century photography process (you've probably never heard of) called Gum Bichromate and is extremely passionate about analog photography. When she needs a break, you can catch Kayla looking at photography books on the third floor of the MSU library, knitting, enjoying outdoor activities like rafting/backpacking/climbing/skiing, or playing fetch with her cat, Squinch.
Haley Ketteler is a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering who is researching biofilm detection in spacecraft wastewater systems with microfabricated electrochemical sensors. When not in the lab, you’ll find her befriending cute dogs, crafting, reading, or hiking.
Emelia Keim is a PhD student in Microbiology and Immunology researching production of tryptophan metabolites in the gut microbiome and their role in cellular differentiation, epithelial barrier function, and immune responses in both in vivo and in vitro models. Outside the lab, you'll catch her reading, traversing local trails, weightlifting, or annoying her cats.
Amelia Lewis is a PhD student in LRES whose research at MSU is focused on ecohydrology, large scale watershed hydrology, and land-atmosphere water fluxes. Her primary research focuses on investigating spatial and temporal trends in water chemistry data in the Tenderfoot Creek Experimental Forest, Montana. In her free time, she has fun being a jack of all hobbies, enjoying hiking, cross country skiing, cooking, embroidery, and aerial arts.
